Microphone not recognised by Dragon?

If you suddenly find that Dragon does not recognise your microphone any more, even though Windows sees it, the below video might be the solution.

Apparently the latest large windows update (1803) changes something in the security settings of Windows. This video shows you how to check for the settings and make sure that your microphone isn’t blocked.

Hi, I'm Janneke and I'm your go-to person for Dragon and Apple speech recognition software help.

When I got severe repetitive strain injury issues over 20 years ago, I didn't want to give up using the computer. So I learned all about controlling the PC with speech recognition and dictating my documents and emails.

I've now been a speech recognition software trainer and consultant for almost two decades, teaching over 2000 people handsfree productivity!

My online courses for Apple Voice Control and Dragon offer self-paced learning and I also love running my membership for Dragon users. For those in need of an intensive training or custom speech command creation, I am available for one-on-one calls.

  • Thanks for this (danke u wel) but this didn’t solve my problem with Windows 10 update 21H1. any ideas?

    • Hi Gavin,
      You’re welcome (graag gedaan).
I’m sorry to hear that you have issues with the mic.

I have the 21H1 update, build 19043.1151 on my computer and had no issues with the microphone after installing this build version.

Is your microphone not recognised at all, or is it just in Dragon that it won’t work?
