Dragon tip: Quickly add comments to Word document by voice

Snel de microfoon aan- en uitzetten

Here is a quick and practical trick for adding comments to a Word document by voice.

If you keep the escape key pressed down while dictating in a word document, this will automatically generate a comment.

Via the Review menu in Word, you can then jump from comment to comment by clicking Next.

Watch the video below for a demonstration.

Hi, I'm Janneke and I'm your go-to person for Dragon and Apple speech recognition software help.

When I got severe repetitive strain injury issues over 20 years ago, I didn't want to give up using the computer. So I learned all about controlling the PC with speech recognition and dictating my documents and emails.

I've now been a speech recognition software trainer and consultant for almost two decades, teaching over 2000 people handsfree productivity!

My online courses for Apple Voice Control and Dragon offer self-paced learning and I also love running my membership for Dragon users. For those in need of an intensive training or custom speech command creation, I am available for one-on-one calls.

  • But how can you get the comment into the comment box? I had no trouble with this until the recent Word update, now I can only get comments in the comment box if I use the Dragon dictation box, which is a slow way to do it and also gives me no audio backup, if there’s a mistake I want to check back and see what I said.

    Any ideas gratefully received!

  • That insert comments facility is really useful, is there any way to change the highlight colour? A dark green would not be accessible to everybody.

    • Hi Carly,
That’s true. However, I haven’t seen a setting or a way to change the colour, unfortunately.
